HER PROFESSOR STEPBROTHER [PT.2]

HER PROFESSOR STEPBROTHER PT.2

LET'S CONTINUE FROM WHERE I LEFT......

AUTHOR'S POV

By the time they reached home from the wedding, the house was steeped in sleepy silence. Jung Hyung and Liana disappeared into their room almost immediately, too tired to even talk.

But for YN and Hoseok, sleep was far from their minds.

Tomorrow was a test, and YN hadn’t studied a word. She hovered in her doorway for a moment before calling softly down the hall, “Hoseok?”

He appeared briefly from his own room, towel draped over one shoulder. “You didn’t study, did you?”

She shook her head sheepishly. “Not really… Can you explain it to me?”

His lips curved into a small smile. “Give me ten minutes. Go sit on my bed — I’ll grab my notes after a shower.”

YN changed into a loose mint-green T-shirt and soft cotton shorts, her hair tied up in a messy bun. Padding barefoot into his room, she perched cross-legged on his bed, flipping through her notebook as she waited. The faint scent of his cologne already lingered in the room, mixing with the quiet hum of the night outside.

The sound of the bathroom door clicking open made her glance up — and then freeze.

Hoseok stepped out, steam curling around him, a towel slung low around his hips. Droplets of water trailed down his chest, catching the dim light.

YN’s mouth went dry. Her gaze betrayed her, lingering far longer than it should have.

The moment he noticed, Hoseok paused mid-step. “Ah—” He turned on his heel, muttering, “I’ll… get dressed,” and disappeared back into the bathroom.

But YN didn’t move. Her face burned, but she couldn’t erase the image from her mind. Her notebook lay forgotten in her lap, her pulse thudding loudly in her ears.

When Hoseok returned, now in a simple black T-shirt and loose grey sweatpants, he raised an eyebrow. “You’re staring at the page like it owes you money,” he teased, sitting beside her.

She forced a laugh. “Just…

concentrating.”

“Sure,” he said, the corner of his mouth lifting. But the way his eyes lingered on her told her he knew exactly what she had been thinking moments ago.

---

Hoseok pulled the chair closer to the bed, setting his notebook down between them. “Alright,” he said, his voice calm and low, “let’s go over the main points again.”

YN nodded, trying to focus as he began explaining. His pen moved quickly, sketching neat diagrams, underlining important terms. But her attention kept slipping — not to the notes, but to the curve of his jaw, the way his lashes lowered when he read, the faint trace of soap still clinging to him after his shower.

She didn’t notice she’d been staring until he suddenly paused mid-sentence.

A small, knowing smile tugged at his lips. He didn’t call her out, but there was something in that smile — deliberate, teasing — as if he knew exactly where her thoughts had gone.

“Following so far?” he asked casually, his eyes locking with hers.

“Y-yeah,” she mumbled, looking away quickly.

They kept going, the silence between his explanations filled with the quiet hum of the desk lamp. At some point, YN shifted closer, her notebook sliding to the side. The warmth radiating from him was strangely comforting.

Without really thinking, she let her head rest lightly on his shoulder.

Hoseok glanced down at her but didn’t move away. Instead, he kept talking softly, his voice a steady rhythm. Eventually, even his words slowed, the pen slipping from his fingers as his own eyelids grew heavy.

Like that — shoulder to shoulder, her head nestled against him, his arm resting lightly against hers — they both drifted off.

They didn’t realize how the night slipped past, or how the lamp still glowed dimly over the two of them, locked in a quiet closeness neither had planned… but neither would forget.

---

The faint chime of an alarm broke the quiet of the room. It wasn’t loud, but in the stillness of the early morning, it was enough to stir Hoseok from his sleep.

He blinked slowly, the dim blue light of dawn filtering through the curtains. The first thing he became aware of wasn’t the alarm — it was the warmth against him.

YN.

Her head was tucked under his chin, her breath slow and even against his chest. One of her hands rested lightly over his T-shirt, and her body was curled into his side as if it were the most natural thing in the world.

A smile tugged at his lips before he even realized it. Carefully, he reached over, silencing the alarm with a quick tap. The room fell quiet again, leaving only the soft sound of her breathing.

He should have moved away. He should have woken her.

But instead, he reached for his phone from the nightstand.

The screen glowed faintly as he lifted it, angling it just enough to capture her face — peaceful, lashes resting against her cheeks, a faint frown line between her brows from the morning chill. He took one photo. Then another. And another.

Lowering the phone, he just… watched her. The way a loose strand of hair fell across her cheek. The small movement of her lips as she breathed.

When she shifted in her sleep, he stilled — but instead of pulling away, she snuggled even closer, pressing her forehead against his chest with a soft sigh.

Hoseok’s smile deepened, his chest tightening in a way he didn’t want to name.

For a few more minutes, he let himself have this — the stillness, the closeness, the illusion that they could stay like this without the world finding out.

---

The soft morning light peeked through the curtains as YN stirred. Her eyes blinked open, the weight of sleep still heavy in her head. Then reality struck.

She froze.

This… was not her bed.

Her gaze darted upward—straight into the calm rise and fall of Hoseok’s chest, the warmth of his body cocooning her. Her cheeks instantly flamed.

“Oh no…” she whispered under her breath, quickly trying to untangle herself. But in her rush, her balance slipped, and instead of getting away…

Thud!

She ended up falling right on top of him. Again.

Hoseok let out a low chuckle, his morning voice husky. “Hmm… is this your favorite place or something?”

YN’s eyes went wide. “W-What?! No! I was just—”

“Because,” he interrupted with a smirk, one hand casually resting on her back as if he wasn’t in any hurry to let her go, “you seem to end up here… a lot.”

Her face burned even more. “It’s not—ugh, move!”

But instead of moving, Hoseok leaned in slightly, his eyes glinting with playful mischief. “Careful, YN… if you keep falling like this, I might start thinking it’s on purpose.”

---

The exam paper slid onto her desk with a satisfying thump. YN’s eyes scanned the red ink at the top corner.

89/100.

She bit her lip to hide a smile, but inside, her heart was doing flips. She had actually worked hard this time… and it had paid off.

When the bell rang, she was still smiling faintly while gathering her books. That’s when a deep voice from behind startled her.

“Miss YN.”

She turned to see Hoseok leaning against the doorframe of the classroom, one eyebrow raised. “My office. Now.”

Her stomach dropped for a second—until she noticed the tiny curve of a smile on his lips.

In his office, Hoseok was sitting behind his desk, lazily flipping through a file. Without looking up, he said, “You did good today. Better than I expected.”

“Uh… thanks?” she replied, unsure why it sounded like both a compliment and a tease.

Finally, he looked up. “As your… teacher—” his eyes twinkled a bit, “—and… let’s just say old friend, I believe good work deserves a reward.”

YN tilted her head. “Reward?”

“Yes. Today, after classes, we’re going shopping. My treat.”

Her eyes widened. “Wait—shopping? Like… real shopping?”

“Of course not fake shopping,” he deadpanned, then smirked when she rolled her eyes. “It’s settled. I’ll pick you up at 5.”

---

Evening – Shopping Mall.....

The mall was buzzing with the sound of chatter, music, and the faint scent of fresh pretzels. Hoseok walked beside her, hands in his pockets, looking far too relaxed for someone in a crowd.

“Alright,” he said, “First stop—clothes.”

They browsed through racks, YN trying on a few outfits while Hoseok gave brutally honest feedback.

“That one makes you look like you’re going to a funeral.”

“This one… hmm, cute, but too you. Try something new.”

Eventually, she settled on:

A soft cream sweater with tiny pearl-like buttons.

A pastel blue dress that flowed just above her knees.

A pair of white sneakers (“Practical and cute,” Hoseok approved).

Hoseok, of course, tried nothing for himself—until YN dragged him to the men’s section.

“You’re getting this,” she declared, holding up a black bomber jacket.

He raised a brow. “You’re buying me a gift with my money?”

“Yes.”

He chuckled and took it. “Fine.”

---

After two hours of wandering through shops, they finally stopped by a bright little ice cream parlor. The glass display had every flavor imaginable.

YN pointed excitedly. “Mint chocolate chip!”

“Of course,” Hoseok muttered. “You’d pick toothpaste with chocolate.”

“And you?” she asked, ignoring his jab.

He scanned the flavors, then smirked. “Rainbow sherbet. Because I’m fun.”

When they sat down, YN licked her cone like a careful adult—until a drip of green ice cream slid down the side. She scrambled to catch it with her tongue, making Hoseok burst out laughing.

“You look like a kid,” he said, leaning forward and swiping a bit of her ice cream with his finger before eating it.

“Hey!”

“What? Tax.”

---

The last stop was the cinema. They ended up watching a comedy—Hoseok’s choice. The two shared a giant bucket of popcorn, YN’s laughter mixing with the occasional sound of Hoseok muttering sarcastic comments about the ridiculous plot.

At one point, YN laughed so hard she accidentally leaned on his shoulder. She quickly straightened up, cheeks warm.

Hoseok didn’t say anything—just quietly shifted so their arms brushed again.

When the movie ended and they stepped out into the cool night air, YN was still smiling. “Thanks for today.”

“Don’t thank me,” he replied with a smirk. “Just do even better next time, and maybe I’ll take you somewhere more fun.”

---

After the movie, the late-evening breeze felt almost like a lullaby as Hoseok and YN walked home, bags in hand. YN was still holding a half-finished bottle of soda, swinging it lazily, while Hoseok carried the heavier shopping bags without a word of complaint.

When they reached the house, the warm glow from the living room lamps greeted them, but the silence confirmed what they already knew — their parents had gone to bed early.

“Looks like it’s just us,” Hoseok said, his voice low and calm.

YN gave a tired little smile. “I’m so sleepy.”

“You’re always sleepy,” he teased, nudging her shoulder lightly.

They both climbed the stairs together, but the exhaustion from walking, laughing, and eating all day had finally caught up to them. There was no late-night study session, no playful banter — just the shared feeling of happy tiredness.

Hoseok glanced at her once more when they reached the landing. “Goodnight, YN,” he said softly.

“Goodnight,” she replied, her eyes already half-closed.

They each retreated into their own rooms, and within minutes, both were asleep — YN curled under her blanket hugging the plushie she had bought that day, and Hoseok sprawled across his bed with the faintest smile, the memory of the day still playing in his mind like a favorite movie.

TIME SKIPS

YN'S POV

The house was quiet that evening, too quiet for YN’s racing thoughts. She sat on her bed, the dim glow of the bedside lamp casting soft golden shadows on the walls. The textbook in front of her was open to a chapter on educational psychology, but her eyes weren’t on the words. They were somewhere else entirely.

On him.

She could still remember the way Hoseok’s laughter had sounded earlier that day — deep, warm, unguarded. The way his eyes softened when she’d pouted after he fed her. How his hand had lingered just a moment too long on hers when he’d passed her the shopping bag. Those small gestures, ones most people would overlook, were the ones YN carried home and tucked into the corners of her heart like delicate treasures.

Her chest tightened.

Yes, she was falling. Not in the clumsy way of teenage crushes, but in the slow, inevitable way the tide reaches the shore. She tried to remind herself that he was her professor, her stepbrother by marriage, someone she shouldn’t even think of in this way. But the more she told herself to stop, the more she noticed him — the crease between his brows when he read, the way he leaned closer when speaking to her, the rare smile that felt like it was reserved for her alone.

She pressed her knees to her chest, resting her chin on them, whispering to herself, What am I doing? But the answer was already there, unspoken: I’m in love with him.

---

Hoseok’s POV

In his room, Hoseok leaned back against the headboard, laptop resting on his knees, though he hadn’t typed a single word in the last ten minutes. His thoughts kept drifting to the girl next door — the same girl who had been in his lecture hall just a few hours earlier, answering questions with that spark in her eyes.

YN.

He ran a hand through his hair, letting out a quiet, frustrated sigh.

What was wrong with him? He was supposed to be the responsible one, the professional. He was her professor, her guide. And yet… every time she looked at him with that bright smile, something in him unraveled.

He thought about this afternoon — her small hand clutching the shopping bag as they walked side by side, the playful way she had eaten ice cream and gotten a little smear on her lip, how his chest had tightened with the sudden urge to lean in and wipe it away with his thumb.

He wanted her. Badly. Not just in the way a man wants a woman, but in the way a soul aches for another. But the line between them was sharp and unyielding. She wasn’t just his student — she was, in the eyes of everyone else, his stepsister.

You’re supposed to protect her, not crave her.

He closed his eyes, but instead of clarity, he saw her again — resting her head on his shoulder in the quiet hours before dawn, her breath steady and warm. He had woken to find her snuggled against him, and in that moment, everything had felt so… right. Too right.

But the rightness was dangerous.

---

Back to YN’s POV

She lay down, staring at the ceiling, imagining Hoseok in his own room, maybe reading or grading papers. A part of her wondered if he thought about her too. Another part told her to stop hoping, because hope made this feeling grow.

And yet, she couldn’t deny it. Every heartbeat whispered his name.

---

Back to Hoseok’s POV

Hoseok shut his laptop with a quiet click. He knew he wouldn’t get any work done tonight.

It was getting harder and harder to keep his feelings locked away. Because every time YN smiled at him, every time she laughed at his jokes, every time she fell asleep beside him without fear…

He didn’t see a student. He didn’t see a stepsister.

He saw her.

And God help him, he wanted her to see him the same way.

---

AUTHOR'S POV

The late afternoon sun spilled lazily through the tall windows of Hoseok’s study, bathing the room in a muted gold glow. The scent of freshly brewed coffee still lingered faintly in the air from earlier, mingling with the soft rustle of pages as YN bent over her notebook.

She was dressed simply—a pale lavender sweater that hung a little loose on her shoulders, the sleeves rolled halfway up her forearms, paired with fitted black jeans. Her hair was loose, cascading like silk over her back, a strand occasionally falling over her cheek. She absently tucked it behind her ear, unaware that each movement drew his eyes to her all over again.

Hoseok, as always, looked impossibly put together. A crisp white dress shirt with the top two buttons undone, sleeves rolled neatly to his elbows, revealing the veins along his forearms. His charcoal slacks held a faint crease from the morning, and his black-rimmed glasses sat low on his nose as he leaned toward the desk, explaining the equation she had been struggling with.

“See,” he said softly, his voice rich and deliberate, “if you carry the two here, the entire solution changes.” His pen tapped gently against her notebook, but his eyes… his eyes weren’t on the numbers anymore. They were on her.

YN felt it—the weight of his gaze—and when she dared to glance up, her breath caught. His face was closer than she’d realized, close enough that she could see the faint shadow of stubble along his jaw, close enough to notice how his pupils dilated just slightly.

Her heart was pounding. She told herself to focus on the problem, on the neat lines of numbers in front of her, but every part of her awareness was tuned into him—the warmth radiating from his body, the faint scent of his cologne, the way his lips curved when he noticed she wasn’t listening anymore.

“YN,” he murmured, the corner of his mouth lifting in a subtle smile, “are you even hearing me?”

She blinked, her cheeks warming. “I… I am. Just—” She faltered, unsure of what excuse to give, when he leaned a fraction closer.

The world outside the study seemed to dissolve—the faint ticking of the wall clock, the hum of a car passing on the street—all of it fading under the pulse in her ears.

Hoseok’s gaze flickered to her lips, just briefly, as if testing something. He didn’t move too fast, didn’t push; instead, he stayed there, inches away, giving her every opportunity to back away.

But she didn’t.

Inside, YN’s thoughts were tangled and breathless. This is wrong… he’s my professor… my stepbrother… But her heart whispered louder than her mind. I want him. I’ve wanted him for longer than I’ll admit.

She didn’t lean back. She leaned forward.

The smallest tilt of her chin brought them together, and then his lips were on hers—warm, deliberate, unhurried. Hoseok inhaled sharply through his nose, his hand finding the edge of the desk as if to ground himself.

It wasn’t just a kiss. It was a confession neither had spoken aloud.

Her sweater brushed lightly against the cotton of his shirt, her fingers curling slightly as though resisting the urge to reach for him. He, meanwhile, was fighting every instinct not to deepen it more than he should, to remember that they were on dangerous ground.

When they finally parted, it was barely a breath’s distance, his forehead resting against hers. His eyes were darker now, searching hers with something unspoken—something both of them knew they couldn’t take back.

“YN…” His voice was hoarse, almost a warning, almost a plea.

She swallowed, unable to look away. “I know,” she whispered. “I know we shouldn’t. But I don’t care.”

His lips twitched into the faintest smile, as though torn between guilt and desire. And for a long moment, they stayed like that, the lesson long forgotten, the air between them charged with something they could no longer deny.
